NORTH Derbyshire GPs are among the first to take on new commissioning responsibilities as part of NHS reforms.
The new North Derbyshire Consortium will be chaired by Darley Dale doctor Ben Milton, piloting changes in the Health and Social Care Bill expected to become law this year.
Interim chair Dr Milton said: “We’re delighted we’ve been successful with our application to start leading the NHS locally.
“We will develop our organisation ensuring patients play an active role and can influence decision making.”
The consortium includes 31 GP practices who will serve 230,000 patients covering Matlock, Chesterfield, Dronfield, Clowne, Bolsover and the Hope Valley.
It aims to forge relationships with Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Derbyshire Community Health Services and Derbyshire County Council.
