Club reviews past year

PROBUS members looked back over a year of service at their annual meeting.

Wirksworth and District Probus Club retiring chairman Neil Jury outlined the club activities during the past year and thanked officers and members for their support.

Before standing down he presented Founder Member badges to Ernie Tarlton, Mervyn Wheen and Norman Mountney. Other Founder Members not present were Matthew Burnby, Frank Hawley and Ron Waterhouse.

Badges were also presented to Honorary Members Ernie Tarlton and Ron Bray, and will be presented to absent Honorary Members Hubert Doxey, Alistair Rennie and Reg Dean on another occasion.

Secretary John Preece and treasurer Martin Beresford presented reports and officers were elected.

Chairman for 2009/2010 will be Alan Barton, vice chairman Norman Laud, secretary John Preece, treasurer Martin Beresford, social secretary Roy Webster and program secretary John Westerman. Bob Duxbury was also elected to the committee.

On taking the chair Alan Barton said he hoped next year would be just as successful.

Following the AGM a short talk was given by member Roger Culverhouse, a former member of the fire service.

The club usually meets at the Wheatsheaf Hotel on the second Monday of the each month.
