Dales’ traveller site is up for discussion again
The district council’s legal obligation to provide a traveller site in the Dales will be discussed again at a special meeting on January 22.
But although three sites of the 16 up for discussion score highly in the authority’s evaluation process, the council has said there is still no clear way forward.
The authority also admits that while new sites have been put forward – by Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group and Derbyshire County Council – it is possible that the corporate committee could reject “most or all” of the potential sites.
District council chief executive Dorcas Bunton said: “Councillors face an incredibly difficult decision simply to narrow down the search ahead of more detailed public consultation.”
The meeting is being held at 6pm on Tuesday, January 22, in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Matlock.
