An ex council chief has narrowly escaped a prison sentence after admitting to fiddling expenses.
Former chairman of Derbyshire County Council, Robin Baldry, was given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of theft from the authority.
Appearing at Derby Crown Court, Baldry admitted theft of £863 in subsistence allowances between May 1, 2005 and October 30, 2010 and theft of £1,200 in mileage claims between the same dates.
The 70–year–old, of Terrace Road, Buxton, was given an 18–week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months with a four–month curfew between 7pm and 7am. He must also pay £2263 compensation and £6343.25 costs.
