Tansley is to be transformed into a winter wonderland this year with the arrival of a new Christmas market.

For three days from Friday to Sunday, December 7 to 9, the village will host the festive event, which is expected to attract more than 60,000 people.

Shaun Hogg, who runs the popular Tansley Sunday Market, has organised the event on his land off Nottingham Road, on the other side of the road from Matlock Garden Centre.

The landowner said: “We’re getting real reindeers pulling Santa in a sleigh and on the Sunday night we will have a huge fireworks display.”

The market will be open from 10am and 10pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am to 8pm on Sunday.

There will be a variety of hot food available including hot dogs and swing grills.

A variety of stalls will be selling Christmas goodies such whiskies and brandies from Masson Mill and hot chocolate from Cadbury, as well as arts and crafts.

The market will have a German influence, with German traditional beer available.

“Five years ago I was in Nuremburg and I saw the traditional markets they have there at Christmas and thought it would be nice to bring that over here,” Shaun explained.

“I’ve said all charities can come and stand free–of–charge and people will be collecting for the air ambulance.

“It’s going to be a really good set up.

“My aim is to make it the biggest Christmas market in the county.”

Shaun, of Ripley, believes the market’s good transport links, being right next to the A615, and the amount of space it has for car parking will make it a success.
