Fun-filled day of Creation in Bakewell
Talented Dales musicians will teach budding singers to sing Haydn's masterpiece, The Creation, at a fun-filled choral event.
Bakewell Choral Society are hosting the Singing Day event on Saturday October 11, with lessons throughout the day and a grand performance at 5.30pm.
The society's musical director Richard Barnes MBE and expert pianist Gillian Bithel will rehearse participants in the wide selection of choruses which make up the piece.
The Creation is a complex and long composition, which depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis.
It was written by Joseph Haydn over three years – between 1796 and 1798 – and is loved by audiences for its big, emotive sounds.
Choral society member Carolyn Chambers said: "The purpose of the day is to raise the profile of choral singing.
"We are not singing the whole of The Creation but choruses from each part.
"We will also be doing bits of part three which is not as well-known, but apparently it's very good," she added.
Previous choral experience is not essential for the classes and everyone is welcome to sing or listen.
Singers need to get application forms from Bakewell Choral Society, then complete and return them before Tuesday September 30.
The day will be held in Bakewell Methodist Church and will cost 10.
Admission will be free for students.
