Green honour for team's power-saving technology

A six-man Matlock business is on track to represent the UK at a prestigious environmental award ceremony.

Kira Supplies Ltd is among the major winners in the Green Apple Environment Awards for the Ultimate Green Desktop solution, which is powered through eco-friendly technology.

The firm will be presented with its award at the House of Commons in November, when the top winners will have the chance to represent the country in the Brussels event.

The company will also be invited to join the National Green Heroes, an elite group of environmental achievers who use their experience to help thousands of others – and the environment – around the world. These plaques are presented on board The Royal Yacht Britannia.

Established in 1996 by Roger Anscombe, family business Kira Supplies currently has one office based in Lea but is looking to expand the business to premises in Tansley.

Roger said of the new technology: "It is so new and so different.

"The software allows other people to use the same computer at the same time.

"I challenge anyone to come up with a greener solution."

Some local schools have already purchased the eco-friendly solution, which is powered by SoftXpand and means one Windows-based computer can be turned into six fully-independent computer workstations.

Roger said the technology saves money, time and energy consumption.

The Green Apple Awards are now in their 15th year and have attracted more than 500 nominations this year.

They are organised by The Green Organisation, an environmental group dedicated to recognising and rewarding best environmental practice around the world.
