Labour claim victory in Dales by-election

LABOUR candidate Colin Swindell has been elected to Derbyshire Dales District Council.

Colin, 26, will be the youngest present serving councillor on the Conservative dominated council and will represent the Winster and South Darley ward.

Mike Ratcliffe, chairman of Derbyshire Dales Constituency Labour Party, said: "His local popularity, enthusiasm and commitment to rural issues will be a breath of fresh air."

The seat became available after Conservative councillor John Moseley retired from the position to accept a new post at the Peak District National Park Authority.

A by-election was held at Elton Village Hall, South Darley Village Hall and the Jubilee Room at the Burton Institute in Winster, on Thursday July 23.
