Matlock: Record office reopened today

editorial image

DERBYSHIRE’S record office has reopened today after a major £4 million refurbishment.

The work at the building in New Street, Matlock, was done to increase archive space and to incorporate the county council’s local studies library.

It has brought together a wealth of historic resources for schools, students, researchers, family historians and the general public to access using the latest technology.

The building now houses more than five miles of existing historic documents – some dating back nearly 800 years – with additional storage for a further three miles of shelving as the collection grows.

Opening hours are 9.30am-5pm Monday to Friday, and 9.30am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The office can be contacted on 01629 538 347.
