NDET RICHARD BARNES

THE life of a much-loved teacher who inspired generations of talented musicians will be remembered at a special memorial concert.

Richard Barnes, who taught music at Lady Manners School for almost four decades, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family in July.

Mr Barnes, who founded Bakewell Choral Society in 1978, was awarded an MBE for services to education and music in 2007.

The choir will perform a special memorial concert at Lady Manners School at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 17. Tickets can be bought from the Bakewell Bookshop or on the door.

Jeanette Lumb, chairman of Bakewell Choral Society, said: “It will be a very poignant concert for all of us.”

Mr Barnes died of an inoperable brain tumour. He was 65.
