Outdoor sounds in Matlock

Punk rock legends The Amplifires gave a powerpop performance at an outdoor gig in Matlock park.

Families were treated to a mix of punk, rock and blues from the Matlock four-piece, at the live music event in Hall Leys on Sunday.

The entertainment was organised by the town council as part of a programme of summer events.

Steve Rawlinson said the band were hoping to play at biker rallies and festivals next year and the outdoor performance in the bandstand, which included classic covers and original songs, had been a good rehearsal.

He added: "There have been bands on in the park in previous years, normally traditional brass bands.

"This year they wanted to do something a bit different.

"Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

"It was a good opportunity to showcase what music there is locally."
