Penning a winner in Bakewell

Literary masterpieces were created at writing sessions in Bakewell.

Budding authors took part in a creative writing competition during the town's annual arts festival and had a go at producing mini sagas.

Participants were given an hour to write their 50-word stories at an event hosted by Jane Littler at The Peacock pub.

Other literary events this year included, poetry in the garden with Poet Laureate of the Peak Ann Atkinson, a lecture by Michael Howard on the role of landscape in art and literature and The Write-Off, a wild west style shoot-out of writing talents, hosted by Writers in the Peak

A regional open Write-Off competition is being organised, starting in September, with a representative from Bakewell.
