Poorly Holly enjoys magic trip thanks to kind sponsors

A mum has thanked kind sponsors for making her daughter's dream come true by funding a magical family holiday to Disney World.

Lex Crossett and husband Simon, from Matlock, took their daughter Holly, seven, who suffers from a muscle wasting disease, and three-year-old son Jack on a trip of a lifetime, after residents raised over 5,000.

Holly wanted to make the trip to Florida, before her illness confines her to a wheelchair.

Lex said: "It was brilliant, like nothing we ever expected.

"It more than exceeded all of our expectations.

"We wanted to do as much as we could because we knew we would only get the one opportunity."

Holly, who suffers from a rare form of muscular dystrophy called limb girdle, enjoyed swimming with dolphins, coming face-to-face with a killer whale, dancing with Mini Mouse and dressing up as Tinkerbell, during the two-week holiday.

Lex said: "I would like to thank all our friends and family and the generous people who made it possible.

"We have some fantastic memories which we will treasure."

Friend Jane Richards organised the trip, because the family had not been on holiday for several years as they were saving up for house alterations so Holly could have a downstairs bedroom and bathroom.

Work is set to start on the family home in October.

Lex added: "The alterations will make a huge difference to Holly and to our daily lives.

"We will not have to carry her up and down stairs any more – it will give her more independence."
