Derbyshire Dales District Council is appealing to local people to nominate everyday heroes who make a difference in their community.

The Chairman of the District of Derbyshire Dales, Councillor Tony Millward, is inviting nominations for this year’s Chairman’s Community Award Scheme.

Councillor Millward said: “So many people in the Derbyshire Dales dedicate their lives to helping others and it’s these people we want to recognise.

“I am appealing to local people to put forward the names of individuals and groups who make an extra special contribution in their communities, helping others by, for example, raising money for charity or good causes or giving up their time for others. It may also be a young person dedicated to the care of an elder member of the family.

“The District Council wants to recognise the great work being done in our communities.”

Individuals or groups can be nominated for awards. Last year’s winners included Alison Hartley of Hathersage for her work in the local community and Tom Pilkington for his work over a number of years with the 1st Matlock Boys’ Brigade.

The closing date for nominations is Friday 22 February 2013, and an awards ceremony will be held at the Town Hall, Matlock, on Thursday 21 March 2013.

To nominate someone for a Chairman’s Community Award contact Annette Reading or Emma Bramwell at the District Council on 01629 761375 or email committee@derbyshiredales.gov.uk
