Superfast broadband moves one step closer

editorial image

Derbyshire’s biggest ever broadband initiative has been given the green light to move forward.

The Digital Derbyshire programme – which will invest at least £14.78m in the county’s broadband network by 2015 – has been granted permission to move to the next phase.

It means Digital Derbyshire can begin consulting companies to establish what broadband provision is available and what plans there are for improvements in the next three years.

Cllr Kevin Parkinson, Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We were one of the first authorities to have our plan approved by central government and this announcement shows the progress we are making.”
