Top honour for Mary

A COMMUNITY champion has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours List.

Mary Wardle, 78, of Milltown, received the prestigious honour for her voluntary work and fundraising in and around Ashover which spans almost four decades.

Mary, pictured with husband John, said she was “absolutely delighted and deeply moved” with the award but insisted that there were others in the community equally deserving.
