Watch out for bikers

WITH the dark evenings now upon us, motorists are being urged to watch out for bikes.

Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership have begun advertising on the back of buses and on the radio to warn drivers about the dangers of failing to look out for cyclists and motorcyclists.

Partnership chairman Mike Ashworth said: “In Derbyshire, almost a third of bike crashes involve a driver who fails to look properly. Bikes are easy to miss because they are much narrower than cars so our advice is to look twice for bikes.

“Bikers can make themselves easier to spot by choosing riding gear that is fluorescent during the day and reflective at night. They can also improve their skills through rider training.”
