Former serviceman Paul Davis from Bakewell is using his passion for the great outdoors and team building to bring fun filled fitness and outdoor boot camps to Derbyshire.
His aim is to get Bakewell moving whatever the English weather.
Born in the late 60s, Paul joined the RAF in 1987 serving in Northern Ireland and becoming an RAF Boxing Light Heavyweight Champion. He also served in the Territorial Army from 2004 to 2007 with the Royal Logistics Corp and West Midlands Police in a custody role 1996 – 2002. Paul then retrained as a Countryside Manager and enjoyed life as a Ranger until 2009.
Not shy of a qualification or two, and looking for a new career focus, Paul has turned his attention to the Health and Fitness industry.
He said: “Since January 2014 I’ve completed my Fitness Instructor course, Anatomy level 2 & 3, Group Circuit Trainer, Nutrition course, Business Studies, Adapting Exercise for Older Adults, Antenatal and Post natal women, Personal Trainer course, Lifeguard Course and re qualified my First Aid at Work.”
Paul trained with www.lifetimetraining.co.uk.
He added: “What made the Lifetime courses stand out for me was the ability to study from home, online or in the classroom – it really suited my lifestyle. I really enjoyed the practical element. I’ll always remember my trainer, Lisa Philips, offering me a piece of advice before my group circuit training assessment. She said, ‘showcase yourself Paul, it’s your chance to show how good you are,’ and I have never looked back.”
Drawing on his experience in the RAF and Territorial Army, Paul is now leading outdoor boot camps three times a week at Chatsworth grounds for beginners, intermediates and more advanced fitness enthusiasts.
He added: “I have an engaging style of coaching and possess a Sgt Major volume so that people can hear me clearly! My boot camps involve circuits, running, sprinting, body weight exercises and a real emphasis on team spirit and fun. I try to weave in as many games as possible in the session. My motto to my clients is…if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”
And Paul’s not stopping there. He wants to add the Exercise Referral qualification to his belt to help people with specific medical problems such as diabetes and osteoarthritis.
Paul added: “If you are passionate about anything in life, it doesn’t matter what age you are.”
