Buxton residents can cash in on the arrival of a credit union in the town.

A new customer service point at the town hall will be manned every Wednesday, between 1pm and 4pm, to provide easier access to Manchester Credit Union (MCU) services.

One of the largest credit unions in the country, MCU operates customer services points in Fairfield, Gamesley and Glossop which are jointly funded by Derbyshire County Council and High Peak Borough Council.

Cllr Dave Allen, county council cabinet member for health and communities, said: “We want to help people struggling with debt and low incomes to get back on their feet and credit unions can help them avoid the need to risk taking out short-term high-cost credit.”
