Wind, the large rigid framed marquee that broke loose from its base in Hall Leys Park, Matlock

This was the scene in Matlock’s Hall Leys Park yesterday when high winds played havoc at the Victorian Christmas Market – blowing down the marquee.

Matlock Christmas Committee and Matlock Town Council, which organise the annual event, were concerned the market would not go ahead as planned as a consequence of the damage.

However with a lot of hard work, the marquee was erected again and the market opened as usual this morning.

Elsewhere, roof tiles and masonry was blown from buildings throughout the Dales.

In Tissington a member of the public had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped in a car when a tree branch fell on it.

The incident happened in The Avenue yesterday at 1pm and fire crews from Ashbourne and Wirksworth attended.
