A climber had a lucky escape after falling eight metres from a Peak District rockface.
The 33-year-old, from Surrey, had been climbing in the Jeffcoat’s Chimney area of The Roaches on Saturday afternoon when he fell, sustaining injuries to his face, hip, left arm and left leg.
Paramedics, two doctors and a community first responder were dispatched to the scene, supported by members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “He (the casualty) had a vacuum splint applied before being carried to the waiting ambulance with the use of the mountain rescue’s specialist stretcher. From there he was taken to University Hospital North Staffordshire on alert.
“Despite having picked up a number of injuries, the man is lucky not to have been more seriously hurt in the fall.”
