A father–of–two, who struggled to walk after undergoing cancer treatment, plans to run ten kilometres for charity.

Simon Taylor, formerly of Darley Dale, is taking part in the Bupa Great Manchester Run on May 14 in aid of Cancer Research UK, after being diagnosed with testicular cancer five years ago.

The 38–year–old will be joined in his mission by friend and Darley Dale resident Darren Hibbert, 43.

Simon has undergone three courses of chemotherapy and is now in remission.

Due to the debilitating nature of his treatment Simon, who now lives in Manchester, struggled to regain the strength to walk, let alone exercise properlyf– making the run even more of a challenge for him.

He said: “I am running purely as a way to pay Cancer Research UK back for saving my life.

“During my treatment I witnessed the devastating effects that so many different cancers can have, and am so much more aware of the importance of research.

“Going through such a chapter in my life, I now want to do something significant and support the charity as much as I can.”
