VIDEO: Pub landlord recalls traumatic burglary ordeal

The traumatic ordeal of a rural Derbyshire pub landlord was reconstructed this morning (Monday, June 27) on Crimewatch Roadshow on BBC One at 9.15am.

On Monday, March 28, this year, Rising Sun landlord Stephen Merrick was subjected to a horrific assault as intruders ransacked the flat above the pub in Middleton.

They tied him up before fleeing with the weekend’s takings.

In this mornig’s programme, Stephen gave his moving account of how the burglary has affected him. Derbyshire Constabulary also appealed for information to help solve the case.

This appeal is part of BBC One’s Crimewatch Roadshow.

This week (Monday, June 27, to Friday, July 1) it travels to the Midlands. The four week series is hosted by Rav Wilding and Michelle Ackerley and is broadcast every weekday morning.

Last year viewers’ calls helped police make almost 50 arrests, for crimes including rape, fraud, grievous bodily harm and burglary and this year the team are hoping for even more.

Alongside appeals on location, the series features tips, advice and the latest crime fighting gadgets in the studio, as well as the usual CCTV and the wanted faces roundups.

Many high profile crimes are set to feature on the programme as well as the sorts of everyday crime which can affect us all.

Detectives hope that viewers will once again have that vital information to put those responsible behind bars.
