A heartbroken father has paid tribute to his son who died in a car accident in Derbyshire on Saturday night.

Sam Moorhouse, 27, died after the yellow Mini he was driving was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa shortly after 9pm on the A61 near Chesterfield.

His girlfriend Jade, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and is currently fighting for her life in hospital.

Sam, of Derby Road, Wirksworth, was formerly a pupil at Anthony Gell School.

His dad, Sam Moorhouse, 58, said: “In such as short life I can’t believe how much he affected the people he met.

“I have just been to town and people have been stopping me in the street and coming out of shops to speak to me about him.

“I just can’t believe how loved he was by people.

“I’m trying to think about other things but I don’t know what day it is really.”

Mr Moorhouse said he had recently been to his son’s workplace, the Land Rover parts and accessories firm, DLS, in Wirksworth, where his colleagues had arranged flowers on Sam’s toolbox in tribute to him.

As well as his dad, Sam also leaves his mum, Debbie, 50, younger sister, Kelly, and his three-year-old daughter, Darcy.

Sam had recently but amicably split up from Darcy’s mum, Adele, and had not long been seeing his new girlfriend when tragedy struck.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the accident to call on 101.
