Major incident

Major incident

Firefighters tackled a fire at a village school in the early hours of the morning.

Crews from Alfreton, Chesterfield and Clay Cross were called to Eastwood Grange School, on Milkin Lane, Ashover, at 1.55am.

Upon arrival, firefighters battled a blaze in the roof of the school.

A spokesman for the school said: “Thanks to the prompt actions of our staff, who effectively and efficiently followed our procedures, the small number of students were swiftly and safely moved from the premises.

“We are extremely grateful to the fire crew who attended the scene. No one was hurt and the damage was confined to a small area. This has not affected our ability to accommodate and care for the young people at the school.”

Police and firefighters are investigating the cause.

Keep checking back for updates.
