An intense meteor shower is set to light up the night sky.

The Geminid display will see hundreds of shooting stars streak through the sky.

It starts tonight and is expected to peak tomorrow night.

A meteor is the streak of light caused when a meteoroid fragment enters the atmosphere and burns up.
