Incidents around Derbyshire have caused traffic mayhem this morning (January 7) leaving people fighting to make it into the office.

Motorway problems, bad weather, and roadworks have contributed to the heavy congestion on main roads across the county.

A fire on the M1 in Derbyshire caused two lanes to be closed off during rush hour - which had a knock-on effect on main roads leading up to the motorway, including the A61.

This was due to a crane which caught alight in the roadworks area going southbound between Tibshelf Services and J28 for Alfreton.

The A632 in Chesterfield was also congested due to roadworks and temporary traffic lights at Hady Hill - which are expected to remain for a number of weeks.

The chaos was then made worse after heavy rain hit parts of the region.

Drivers were stuck in a build-up on the A61 between Clay Cross and Tupton after the Bottom of Rose Hill flooded..

But with heavy rain expected for most of the day in Derbyshire, people are being warned to expect further delays.
