As cooler air starts to descend over the UK, the bookies now rate it a 3/1 shot that snowflakes will fall anywhere in the country in July this year. The odds have also been cut into 5/1 (from 8/1) that summer 2016 enters the record books as the coldest ever.

A tweet from the official Met Office Twitter account said: “Cooler air means we could see snow on the tops of the Scottish mountains over the next few days.”

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “The temperature drop has left us with no choice but to offer odds on snowfall in June and July for the first ever time.”
