Police appeal after ‘serious assault’ in town centre

Police are appealing for information after a “serious assault” in Chesterfield town centre which left the victim needing surgery.

A 22-year-old man was assaulted on Corporation Street in the vicinity of Mojo bar.

The victim recalls being approached by a man who knocked over his drink in a smoking area outside Mojo.

The next thing he remembers is being punched and kicked by a man described as stocky.

The victim suffered injuries including a broken cheek, a broken eye socket and cuts. He has had to undergo surgery as a result of the assault.

The incident, which happened sometime between midnight and 2am on Saturday, January 25, was not reported to police until almost two weeks after the assault.
