Two Buxton teenagers have raised over £2,000 for the volunteer rescuers who raced to their aid in the aftermath of a climbing accident in the Peak District.

Jimmy Hyland and Jamie Fisher had to call on the services of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team after they fell and injured themselves while climbing at The Roaches in 2012.

As a thank-you, the pair have twice taken part in the Matlock to Cromford Boxing Day raft race, raising a total of £2,390 in sponsorship.

Buxton MRT chairman Richard Doran, pictured receiving a cheque for the latest donation of £322, said: “It is great that both boys made a very successful recovery from their ordeal in 2012 and the fact they have gone on to raise so much money for the team in way of thanks is a remarkable testament to their character.”
