A thug who has been involved in a “volatile” relationship has admitted punching his ex-partner in the face.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, June 2, how Dale Talby, 31, of Purbeck Avenue, Loundsley Green, Chesterfield, visited his ex-partner’s new flat and attacked her after she had moved homes.

Prosecuting solicitor Angela Hadfield said: “Talby and his partner had been in an on-off relationship for three-and-a-half years and it’s been a violent relationship.

“There was a previous occasion where he broke her nose by hitting her with a telephone and he served three months’ custody but she continued the relationship when he was released.

“The relationship continued in a similar vain with more violence.

“She left her partner and moved into a bed and breakfast hotel and since then he’s contacted her and banged on her ground floor window but she would not let him in.

“However, he got access when another neighbour returned and as he assisted her with her bags he got into his ex-partner’s unlocked flat and an argument ensued.

“He punched her to the face and her left, lower cheek swelled up into a lump.”

Talby, who has previous convictions including matters involving violence, pleaded guilty to assault after the incident on May 24.

Defence solicitor Robert Sowter said: “The relationship is on-and-off and is volatile.

“Mr Talby is under no illusions about the potential sentence he could receive for this offence.

“He has an issue with alcohol. He had an issue with drugs but alcohol has now taken its place and he wants to address that.

“His motivation has increased.”

District Judge Andrew Davison adjourned the case to consider reports before sentencing on June 18.

Talby was remanded in custody.
