A market town came alive as a week of festivities came to a close with a carnival day to remember.

Bakewell Carnival and Welldressing Week was a success as ever with a host of events to keep the whole community entertained.

The fun started with the annual Bakewell International Day of Dance, and continued with activities including fell racing,Jack Russell racing and classic cars.

Saturday was carnival day, and the whole town turned out to see the traditional floats and people dressed in costume parade through the town.

David Rawson, assistant chairman of the Bakewell Carnival committee, said: “Everything went perfectly. We put 1,200 ducks in the river for the duck race and there were 108 rafts for the raft race.”

He said the winning float for the parade was the Wheatsheaf pub float, which had the theme of Cafe Rene in ‘Allo ‘Allo.

“It was brilliant,” David added. “They made a cafe and they all dressed up.”
