A ukulele fun day struck a chord on Saturday as more than 60 musicians from across the region took part in a workshop at Buxton Methodist Church, Chapel Street.

The event, organised by Buxton Festival and Buxton Speech and Drama Festival as part of their outreach programme, took place a day before the fourth annual Play Your Ukulele Day, which aims to change the world four strings at a time.

The classes were led by ukulele teacher Phil Doleman, who held sessions for both beginners intermediates.

Claire Barlow, of Buxton Festival, said: “The sessions were great if you’ve always wanted to play an instrument, want to play with others or learn some new material.”

Chairman of the festival Celia Dunk said: “Given the level of interest for the workshops, there may be enough people to start a Ukulele Club in the Buxton area. Watch this space!”
