World Cup fever grips Ripley, Heanor and Alfreton areas, as fans say come on England

Waiting for Video...

Football fans from across the Ripley and Heanor News area have put up their flags and dusted off their England shirts as they get ready for the big World Cup kick off.

And this week fans have been sending their good luck messages to Steven Gerarrd and co via our Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/RipleyandHeanorNews or by email at news@rhnews.co.uk.

They have also been giving their predictions on how England will get on.

You can do the same and read more comments by going to our Facebook page. We also have a FREE World Cup match guide for you to fill in inside today’s paper (pages 10 & 11).

It comes as two pals from a Ripley sports charity project, Georgie Hind,15, and Lien Lee-Ray, 16, were chosen to lead England out on to the pitch in their opening clash.

They were chosen after being recognised by Coca-Cola Great Britain for an outstanding contribution to junior football in their community. Georgie is a junior coach at SportingFutures, which is supported by StreetGames. Lien is a fellow StreetGames participant.

World Cup fever kicked off in Amber Valley with official mascot Fuleco visiting and the incredible news the two teenagers will have the eyes of the world upon them when the Three Lions get their campaign under way against Italy.
