Rowsley-based Authentic Furniture has received a funding boost to drive its expansion.
Authentic Furniture specialises in handcrafted, heritage Derbyshire-built furniture and has rapidly become noted for its Chesterfield sofas.
Recently opening its first showroom at Peak Village, Authentic plans a rollout of several other showrooms to anchor its online presence.
Explains founder Tim Lowry, “At least 80 per cent of our mature business will be online. Traditionally a business such as ours might have targeted 20 showrooms but times have changed.
“A few key showrooms are useful places for customers to come and physically touch the quality but one of their main purposes is giving reassurance that a majority online business is actually ‘real’ and ultimately reliable.”
Lowry, 40, a locally born sales and marketing veteran, with both previous online and furniture experience, adds, “It’s all about the genuine narrative".
Authentic uses traditional upholstery techniques and sources aged timbers and its fabrics from traditional UK suppliers. As well as strong local and national interest, export orders have already come from France and the U.S.
The company is aiming for £1m turnover in its first full year of trading and recently was singled out for £150K investment by The UK Manufacturing Accelerator, a Manchester based funder of high potential manufacturers.
Its CEO Malcolm Evans says, "Authentic ticks all the boxes for us; UK manufacturing, excellence in all things, disruptive business model and experienced, ambitious management."
