Wirksworth residents are being asked their opinions as part of a major project that will shape the future of the town.

Over the coming months, people living in Wirksworth and Bolehill are going to be encouraged to get involved with a consultation that will eventually lead to the creation of the Wirksworth Neighbourhood Plan.

The plan, which will be prepared in agreement with Wirksworth Town Council, and will guide development and land-use in the area.

Neighbourhood development plans are a new type of planning approach included in the Localism Act.

Cllr Mike Ratcliffe, chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Team, said: “We have a committed group of local people willing to help.

“So now is the time to move forward let the town know what we`re doing and start to talk with everyone.

“This is probably the first time for many years that anyone has ever tried to ask all residents what their concerns are and how they would like to see the town developing, rather than a local authority dictating what will happen.”
