OCTOGENARIAN Lolita Mackay has finally drawn a line under her Oxfam volunteering - after more than 30 years of dedicated service.

However, staff at the Belper King Street store haven’t been able to get rid of her that easily - as she is still popping in to make the tea. The popular 87-year-old, known as Lola, who worked at Bomber Command during the Second World War, was so committed to the store she even brought in her own dresses to put on mannequins when times were tight. Manager Cheryl Cunningham said: “Even through the snow Lola would still be there on a Tuesday. There are 16-year-olds that wouldn’t do that. She was always, always here and would never let us down. You could always count on her.”

Lola was awarded a gold heart certificate by Oxfam’s head office to recognise her achievement.
