Lens-happy Dales snappers are invited to submit their photographs into the Matlock Photographer of the Year competition, which is now open for entries.

Residents are invited to put forward their best photographs once again and the theme for 2013 is ‘Light’.

Matlock Town Council, who have organised the competition, invite people to be as “creative as you can” with the theme, the only requirement is that the picture should be taken within Matlock and submitted by August 31.

A town council spokesperson said: “If you are looking for a little help or inspiration the next Saturdays Unplugged event on July 13 from 10.30am will provide you with exactly that, as the LiveLight event will be a photowalk with photographic artist Debbie Adele Cooper from Matlock Live! providing hints and help on how to get the best out of your pictures.”

Entries can be submitted by email to projects@matlock.gov.uk or paper copies can be handed in at The Imperial Rooms. The competition closes on August 31 and the judging will take place the following week.

Winners will be invited to a special presentation at Matlock Town Council and their picture will be used on websites and in Matlock Town Council publications.
