At a meeting of Matlock Rotary Club held at the Temple Hotel, Matlock Bath, President Peter Wigglesworth announced that Past President Bill Darley was being awarded the prestigious Paul Harris fellowship.

Rotarians that have given exceptional service to the Rotary movement both locally and in the wider community can be nominated by their clubs to receive recognition from Rotary International, through the award of the Paul Harris Fellowship. Paul Harris was the founder of the worldwide Rotary Movement over 100 years ago.

When making the presentation, President Peter commented that Bill had served the Club in various capacities over the years. Throughout his membership, Bill has always been at the fore in supporting the many community services and fund raising events that the club undertakes each year.

When accepting the award,– Bill struggled for words, however, as he quickly recovered his poise he expressed his surprise and delight at receiving this honour, thanking President Peter and the members in Matlock Rotary for the award.
