Poised ready to fly in the RAF’s newest front-line helicopter are officers from Matlock air cadets.
They visited 78 Squadron at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire to take a ride in the multi-million pound Merlin helicopter.
They were escorted around the aircraft by Flying Officer Drew Lilleker, the squadron’s second-in-command, who briefed them on its equipment and capabilities.
Sergeant Will Muscroft, 17, said: “We’d been tremendously excited and looking forward for ages to being able to fly in the Merlin, and when we finally got here the helicopter was even more impressive than ever.”
Matlock’s air cadets are regular fliers with the RAF.
Their parade nights are on Mondays and Wednesdays at Hurst Rise between 6.30pm and 9pm.
