Derwent Valley Lions Club has passed a milestone in one of its many on-going projects.
Since 1999, they have been gathering unwanted spectacles at a number of collecting points in the Dales.
The club has collected 20,000 glasses which have been transferred to third world countries for use by people who cannot afford to buy spectacles.
One of the spin-offs from this has seen donated gold frame spectacles converted into their pure metal content, to be sold to pay for other eye projects.
Lion President Wendy Sanderson said, “This is such an easy way for anyone to get involved and simply donate their unwanted glasses to help those who cannot afford what, these days, is a very expensive product; especially in poorer countries of the world.”
