CLIFF PLUNGE: Molly the dog suffered two broken legs after falling at High Tor.

A DOG had a lucky escape after falling 80 feet off a cliff.

Molly, the two-year-old lurcher was out walking with her owner at High Tor on Monday May 16 when she ran off in pursuit of a squirrel.

The squirrel dashed to safety up a tree but Molly carried on running, through a fence and off the cliff.

Owner Philip Griffiths of Whitewood Way in Matlock, who has three other dogs, said: “My wife was out walking with her.

“She had to rush back to get me and my son. Fortunately Molly had landed on a ledge but we knew her legs were broken as one was at a 90-degree angle.”

Molly was rushed to the vets in Matlock before being taken to Derby for an operation to fix two broken legs.

Mr Griffiths said: “All being well she is going to be fine. She will always have a limp but at least she is still with us.”

He added: “It’s quite funny really as I’ve just had a similar operation to my leg so I know what she is going through.”
