More fireworks at illuminations

This year’s Matlock Bath Illuminations will explode into action at the weekend – and this years programme features an extra fireworks night to thrill spectators.

Derbyshire Dales District Council expects to attract 100,000 people to Matlock Bath for this year’s illuminations, will take place between Saturday, September 6, and October 25.

Five firework nights will be staged – on the last Saturday in September and every Saturday in October – and the event’s famous decorated boats will parade twice on these special nights.

The traditional spectacle is in its 117th year and visitors can beat the queues by booking tickets online at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/Illuminations

The council’s environment committee chairman Councillor Steve Bull said: “Online tickets sales are an important part of our strategy to make the illuminations experience as easy and trouble–free as possible.

“Anyone who has witnessed the incredible crowds that pour into the district council’s Derwent Gardens every Saturday and Sunday throughout the festival season knows it makes sense to get tickets in advance.

Councillor Bull said the council’s key aim in 2014 was to again run the Illuminations at no cost to Dales council tax payers while delivering a boost to the local economy.
