Visitors from far and wide have flocked to a Peak village to admire its floral displays.

The Great Longstone Flower Festival continues until Saturday with a theme of myths and legends.

Flowers have been arranged to depict legends such as the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, the Wizard of Monsal Dale, Black Harry the highwayman, the Mermaid Pool and Prince Arthur and the angels.

The annual event is run by St Giles Church, Great Longstone, and was started around 15 years ago.

Judy Fraser–Smith, a parishioner involved in the festival, said: “We have got about 15 flower arrangers and people who steward the event and provide refreshments.

“Every year we support a charity – this year we are doing it for the church as we recently has renovations done on a wall.

“We have had lots of visitors come to the church and the village hall.”

Information on up coming events taking place as part of the festival, such as a violin and piano concert, is available by calling Judy on 01629 640478.
