The Ashover Light Railway Society (ALRS) has recently acquired two locomotives to join the existing 1948 built Ruston diesel currently undergoing active restoration.

A spokesman for the society said: “The first of the new acquisitions is a two-foot gauge battery electric locomotive that saw use at Spondon power station near Derby.

“The second is the unique sentinel type steam locomotive that was originally built for the Jaywick Sands railway in Essex and later saw use in New Brighton. Currently dismantled, this will represent a longer term restoration project.”

The ALRS has plans to re-open a short section of the line along the original trackbed, as well as providing the facilities to outline the importance of the railway in the social history of north east Derbyshire.
