A new £1.1 million recycling centre has opened near to Darley Dale.

Derbyshire County Council’s new household tip was officially launched last week at Harrison Way, Northwood, by chairman George Wharmby.

He was joined by youngsters from local schools who gave a musical performance led by music group Junk for Funk using musical instruments made out of rubbish.

Around 5,000 tonnes of waste is expected to be taken to the new centre every year with more than 70 per cent expected to be recycled.

The new centre will be open seven days a week from 8.30am until 6pm a range of household waste including furniture and electrical items can be recycled for free.
