The Duke of Devonshire got digging to help Baslow WI celebrate its 90th birthday.

The Duke planted an oak tree on Baslow’s Golden Gates roundabout on Wednesday, June 22 to help mark the special anniversary.

A spokeswoman for Baslow WI said: “We wish to express our gratitude to Baslow Parish Council for their unanimous support, to Yorkshire Tea for awarding Jane Walker the £500 to finance the project and to the highways department for the use of their land.

“We hope that in another 90 years this oak tree will have transformed the approach to Baslow Village and that Baslow WI will also be as successful as it is today.”

The oak tree will be underplanted with bluebells later this year.
