Conservation campaigners have been repairing bridleways damaged by illegal off-roaders.

Members of Peak Horsepower joined forces with Peak Park volunteers and members of Rocking the BOAT, the green lanes campaign group in Great Longstone, to repair the Taylor Lane Bridleway on Longstone Moor.

Deep ruts along the bridleway caused by illegal motorbikes have left Taylor Lane too dangerous for riders and difficult for walkers and cyclists.

Over the weekend the team started moving 16 tonnes of stones and chippings onto the bridleway and filling some of the deepest ruts.

Patricia Stubbs, of Peak Horsepower, said: “It was really hard work, but well worth it. We just hope all our good work will not be undone by illegal trail bikers in the future. We met seven trial bikes using the bridleway illegally on Sunday.”
