OUR region flew the flame for the Olympics this week as details of the torch’s route prior to next summer’s games were revealed.
Pupils from Matlock Bath Holy Trinity Primary were joined by local sport star Emma Erskine, and community leaders at the foot of the Heights of Abraham for the special ceremony to mark the traditional countdown to the games. Details released confirm the torch will pass through the Derbyshire Dales on its 70-day journey on June 29 next year, heading through Matlock, Darley Dale and Bakewell.
Although specific details of the route are yet to be decided, and with an emphasis on different forms of transport, it is confirmed the torch will be carried in one of the cable cars at the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath.
