COMPETITORS saddled up to cycle their way to £1,030 for charity.
Pennies in the Park saw penny farthing riders from across the country take to their Victorian machines through Hall Leys Park in Matlock to celebrate the centenary of the picturesque setting.
The park has had a strict no-cycling policy for 100 years but race organiser Richard Thoday, of Stanley Fearns Cycles in Matlock, had negotiated for the ban to be lifted for one day.
Sponsored by Maazi Restaurant, the race was won by James Brailsford.
The money went to Aquabox, a charity supported by the Wirksworth Rotary Club which supplies water purification packages to those affected by natural disasters across the globe.
